CHARDONNAY is the first horse to have propelled Max KUHNER to the very highest level. Individually ranked 6th at the Tryon World Equestrian Games, he has earned over €700,000 in prize money and numerous 5* Grand Prix performances representing Austria.
On the genetic side, he is a member of Holsteiner Stamm 1228. Sired by CLARIMO, he also shares his dam line with the stallions ACCORD, CODEX, and COLANDER. This lineage has proven its quality for top-level showjumping, but also for eventing and dressage.
Notably, CHARDONNAY’s dam is a sister to CUBA LIBRE 2, successful at 1.50 m, and to ROCCIA, who herself produced BITTERSWEET 2, competitive at CCI 3* level in the USA. Going back to the third dam, we also find the excellent AD CROSSHILL, a CSI 5* winner with the Greek rider Athina Onassis.

Performances
An outstanding performer under the saddle of Max KÜHNER, who trained him within his own stable from the very beginning, with the support of Helmut SCHÖNSTETTER. Exceptionally talented and precocious, he placed in his first 5* Grand Prix at just 8 years old: 7th in the World Cup in Stuttgart and 9th in Verona.
A strong indication of the career to come, the partnership led by the Austrian rider then went on to deliver consistent top-level performances and to represent their country at the most prestigious championships:
World Cup Final, Gothenburg 2016: 14th
European Championships, Gothenburg 2017
FEI World Equestrian Games, Tryon 2018: 6th individual
World Cup Final, Gothenburg 2019: 9th, without a single rail down
European Championships, Rotterdam 2019
In addition to their championship appearances, they achieved numerous placings in 5* Grand Prix, including 3rd place in the legendary Spruce Meadows 5* Grand Prix, 2nd place in the La Coruña World Cup Grand Prix, as well as 6th places in Madrid and Villach Treffen.
Breeding advice
CHARDONNAY appears to pass on to his offspring his blood, suppleness, good movement, and very good jumping technique. With a sporty yet very harmonious conformation, he is also extremely elegant.
We believe he is particularly well suited to more substantial or heavier-type mares, to which he can add refinement, balance, and athleticism.
Offspring
Focused on his sporting career until his introduction to breeding, CHARDONNAY’s first foals are still very young. The first generation was born in 2020 in Germany, among them CHARDO BLUE PS, a young approved stallion.
